Interspecies Friendships: Part 26

Deep friendship between a cat and a bear

This article reminds us that the capacity for lasting, close friendship extends far and wide.

In addition to the litany of other cruelties and hardships forced upon animals by exploitative enterprises such as the meat, dairy, and egg industries and the fur trade, these institutions also destroy—and prevent—friendships that can bring immense joy and meaning to animals' lives.

And don't think for a minute that individuals from a multitude of species—perhaps many know than we know about—don't feel grief. There are countless examples of animals experiencing grief that is so overpowering, so consuming, that it leaves them in a prolonged state of shock, with little will to live, and sometimes even kills them.

Meat-eaters, hunters, and anglers take note: When we kill or injure an animal, we may be killing or injuring another animal's best friend.
