Preliminary Thinking Before My Simple Suggestion for the NIH 

The U.S. spends more on health research than any other country.

We're number one in health care expenditures per capita.

Two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese.

17 percent of kids in America are obese.

We have some of the highest cancer, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes rates in the world.

Surely with all our life-saving and life-extension technologies and drugs we're in the top two or three for lifespan, right? No, we're pretty dismal in that category, too.

Various mainstream, if not conservative, medical groups and health research charities conclude that major killer diseases—cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes—are mostly preventable through simple, inexpensive lifestyle changes.
